Softball falls on the road to Middle Georgia

MACON, Ga. (Feb. 22, 2022) – The Point University softball team traveled to Middle Georgia State Tuesday afternoon for their second doubleheader matchup of the season and fell to the Knights 8-0 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

Game one- Point: 0 Middle Georgia: 8

The Knights limited Point to only two hits in game one as Middle Georgia recorded 11 hits. The Knights scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead and scored two more runs in the third. Middle Georgia posted four runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the run rule into effect and end the game in five innings.

Chelsea Parker and Asia Jones recorded one hit apiece.

Game two- Point: 3 Middle Georgia: 4

Point finally pushed a run across the board in game two, but not before the Knights took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first. The Skyhawks run came in the top of the fifth after a single to center field by Brianna Plocharczyk scored Kayla Wyatt. The Knights would answer in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer to regain the lead 2-1.

In the sixth, Point earned its first lead of the day after back-to-back Middle Georgia errors allowed Jones and Devin Foster to score. However, the Knights would answer in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs of their own to retake the lead. Middle Georgia would get the Skyhawks out in order in the top of the seventh to preserve their lead and go on to victory.

Plocharczyk led the Skyhawks, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jones and Wyatt each went 1-for-3.

With Tuesday's losses, the Skyhawks fall to 7-5 on the season. The Skyhawks will now turn their attention to Appalachian Athletic Conference play as they travel to face Columbia College on Friday, Feb. 25 and St. Andrews on Saturday, Feb. 26. Friday's doubleheader with the Koalas is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader with the Knights is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
