No. 19 men’s tennis falls in tight battle with The Citadel

MARIETTA, Ga. (Feb. 26, 2022) – No. 19 Point University men's tennis traveled to Marietta, Ga., Saturday morning to face NCAA Division I opponent The Citadel and fell 4-3 in a tight battle that came down to the final match.

The Skyhawks jumped ahead 1-0 after picking up the doubles point with wins from Alex Verlaguet and Guido Luna at No. 1 doubles (8-4) and Santiago Speranza and Brody Millwood at No. 3 doubles (8-2). Trey Maust and Gavin Thomas dropped a tough match at No. 2 doubles 6-8.

The Citadel picked up wins at No. 1, 2 and 6 singles and Thomas and Speranza won at No. 4 and No. 5 to even the score 3-3. The winning match came down to No. 3 singles, where Maust went three sets, winning the first 6-4 before falling 1-6 and 4-6, and the Bulldogs went on to victory.

No. 5 Santiago Speranza vs. Josh Wallen: 6-2, 6-0

No. 6 Dakotah Fuller vs. Bradey Minnich: 2-6, 0-6

Up next, Point will hit the road for its next three matches first they will travel to Bluefield for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Friday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m.
