Men’s soccer dominates KCU 10-0

GRAYSON, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2021) – Jeronimo Leguizamon and Daniel Perez each recorded hat tricks to help lead the Point University men's soccer team to a 10-0 victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference member Kentucky Christian Friday night on the road.

Friday marked the Skyhawks' final away match of the season, as Point finished the regular season 4-3 on the road.

The Skyhawks' scoring began in the first half with a goal from Leguizamon in the 17th minute and a goal from Fabian Saborio in the 32nd minute. Guus Wolters recorded an assist on each goal. Point entered the break leading 2-0 and outshot the Knights 11-3 in the first half.

After the break, Leguizamon went right to work, scoring his second goal at 46:06. Francisco Pacheco earned the assist on Leguizamon's goal. Thirty-seven seconds later, an own goal by KCU extended Point's lead 4-0. The Skyhawks scored six more goals, with Leguizamon scoring his third, assisted by Perez, and Perez followed with a goal, assisted by Leguizamon. Perez went on to score two more goals, and Wolters and Tommy Eskew each connected for a goal. Eskew recorded an assist on Perez's final goal.

The Skyhawks outshot the Knights 14-1 in the second half. Point goalkeeper Julio Gomes recorded two saves to secure a clean sheet.

"Long road trips can always be difficult, especially after a very hard-fought and tight loss the game before, but the boys came ready to play," Head Coach Mark Wozniak said. "They knew they had a job to do tonight to secure the three points and were disciplined to not let their intensity or level drop. A few players got goals and assists and it was great to see both Jero and Dani get hat tricks. I was pleased with our overall performance, and now we can turn our attention to Union and keeping this positive momentum into that game."

With Friday's win, the Skyhawks advance to 6-5-1 (5-5 AAC). Point has three games left in the regular season, with all three matches scheduled to be played inside River Bowl Stadium. First, Point will host Union on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2:15 p.m. The Skyhawks will then host AAC newcomer Columbia on Wednesday, Oct. 27, and Bluefield on Saturday, Oct. 30, in their season finale.
