Men’s soccer wins hard-fought battle with Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2021) – Pablo Sanz Diez connected for the first goal of the game in the 13th minute, then went on to earn an assist for Jeronimo Leguizamon in the 72nd minute to help the Point University men's soccer team defeat Appalachian Athletic Conference rivals Bryan 2-1, Saturday afternoon on the road.

Leguizamon connected for Point's second goal of the game after recording the assist on Sanz's goal. Leguizamon currently leads the team with five goals on the season, and Sanz leads the team with five assists.  

Point (3-3-1, 3-3 AAC) outshot the Lions 17-14 and 7-4 on shots on goal. Gomes recorded three saves, with the Lions' lone goal of the game coming as a Point own goal in the 81st minute.

It was an intense 90 minutes of action for both teams, as there was a combined five yellow cards and one ejection.

"Great result today in a very tough environment," Head Coach Mark Wozniak said. "It was an emotional game where each team battled, and I was happy with our guys for ensuring that we would come away with a win and three points. We got two goals and were able to close the game out and then turn our focus to recovering for our next game."

The Skyhawks have officially reached the halfway mark of the 2021 season and have eight games remaining, with six at home and two on the road. Point's next matchup will be one of their two final road games, as the Skyhawks travel to face AAC newcomer Johnson University on Saturday, Oct. 9. Game time is scheduled for 4 p..m.
