Leguizamon, Skyhawks top TMU for first AAC win

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Sept. 15, 2021) – Jeronimo Leguizamon connected for two goals in the first half to help the Point University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Truett McConnell Wednesday night on the road.

Point moved to 1-1-1 on the season and 1-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

"Tonight was an important win being the first conference win of the season," Head Coach Mark Wozniak said. "The guys played well and adjusted to the rain that never stopped all game long. No game is easy in the conference and tonight we came against a well organized Truett and came away with three points. We recover and prepare for our next game on Saturday when Milligan visits."

Leguizamon opened the scoring up in the 20th minute off an assist from Guus Wolters and extended the Skyhawks lead with another goal, 13 seconds before the end of the first half.

The Bears would cut Point's lead in half with a goal early in the second half, but that was all the scoring Point would allow.

Point outshot the Bears 22-13 and forced TMU's goalkeeper to make eight saves. Point goalkeeper Julio Gomes made four saves.

Up next, the Skyhawks will return home to River Bowl Stadium for an AAC matchup against No. 9 Milligan on Saturday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
