Skyhawks unable to hold on to early lead, fall 22-7

RICHMOND, Ky. (April 6, 2022) – The Point University men's lacrosse team traveled to play Mount Vernon Nazarene in a neutral-site game at Eastern Kentucky University Tuesday afternoon and fell to the Cougars 22-7.

The Skyhawks opened Tuesday's contest with an early 2-0 lead, as Malyke Sillers scored two unassisted goals to open the first quarter. These would be the only goals Point would score in the quarter, as the Cougars scored 12 unanswered goals, making the score 12-2 heading into the second quarter. Sillers continued his hot afternoon as he scored two more unassisted goals to start the second quarter, shrinking the Cougar lead 12-4. Mount Vernon Nazarene scored three goals to end the second quarter and led 15-4 at halftime.  

In the third quarter, the Skyhawks were held scoreless and found themselves down 19-4 heading into the final frame. Sillers scored his fifth and final goal of the contest to open up the scoring for the Skyhawks in the fourth quarter, followed by two unassisted goals from Jassiem Josse, making the score 19-7. The Cougars scored three more goals (22-7).

Point was led offensively by Sillers, who had five goals off five shots. Josse contributed two goals on two shots, had two assists, and added six ground balls. Malyke Sillers and Raphael Soares each had four ground balls and Soares recorded an assist. The Skyhawks finished with seven goals off seven shots and recorded 23 ground balls. In goal, Kiereek McLeod recorded 16 saves.

The men's lacrosse team will compete in their final Appalachian Athletic Conference game on Wednesday, April 6, as they travel to the University of the Cumberlands for a 3 p.m. matchup.
