Men’s Basketball falls to NCAA Division II, University of Montevallo on the road

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (Nov. 18, 2024) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for a non-conference game against NCAA Division II, the University of Montevallo where the Skyhawks fell to the Falcons with a final score of 83-69. 

The first half opened with the first five points coming from Vince Graves from a jumper and a three-point shot. Montevallo looked to pull away with a run but a shot behind the arc from O'Brien Watkins brought the score to 12-8. The Falcons responded with a 12-0 run to boost their lead to 24-8 before Mike Evans converted on a triple. The three-pointers continued to keep the Skyhawks in striking distance as two triples from Jeremiah Smith and Mike Evans cut into Montevallo's lead at seven. Point brought the Falcons' lead to just four as Smith and Evans found themselves on the scoring end. Mike Evans continued to add a heat check as another jumper made by Evans put the Skyhawks ahead with a 27-26 score. Montevallo responded by regaining the lead through shots in the paint and from the three-point line. Shots at charity stripe helped increase their lead to 41-32 to go into the half. 

The Falcons opened the second half three converted shots back to back but the Skyhawks continued to keep their game within reach as Mike Evans added a triple and Antwon Ferrell sprinted past the defense for the layup. Vince Graves brought Montevallo's lead to single digits as he added a dunk to bring the score to 47-39. As the Falcons looked to extend their lead from deep, Jacob Crockett responded with a triple to look to slow down the opposition. Montevallo continued to use the paint as their friend and find their way to the free throw line which boosted their lead to 64-48. Kenton Steele and Sam Rees entered the fray with a jumper and three from Rees to get in the scoring column. The Falcons were able to use their mid-half run to keep the lead and win with a final score of 83-69. 

In the Box 

Mike Evans led with 17 Points, two steals, and two assists. Vince Graves followed with 13 Points and one rebound. Brandon Kincaid added eight points and two rebounds.
