Point defeats KCU at home

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 13, 2021) – The entire starting five for the Point University men's basketball team made it to double figures in scoring to lead the Skyhawks to an 89-82 victory over Kentucky Christian University Saturday night inside West Point Park Gymnasium.

With the win the Skyhawks advance to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

The Skyhawks were led by both Javier Turner and RJ Selman, who each had a team-high of 17 points. Turner had an explosive first half as he went 6-for-8 from the field. Selman shot 4-for-10 from the field and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He also managed to grab seven rebounds to add to the stat sheet. Senior guard Ray Reeves finished the game with 16 points recording five assists and four rebounds. Senior forward Corey Bowen dominated the paint tonight as he finished the night with his first double-double of the season. Bowen recorded 13 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard Jake Smith rounded out the Skyhawks in double figures with 10 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

Point started the game hot as they jump ahead on a 17-4 run. The Knights answered back with a brief run that would bring them within seven points of the Skyhawks, but a made layup by Javier Turner would spark another run for the Skyhawks. From there Point showed their dominance as they extended their lead to 20 points over the next four minutes. Despite a big push by the Skyhawks, the Knights would battle their way back into the game with a late 12-3 run to end the first half trailing 47-40.

Kentucky Christian carried over their momentum from the first half and opened with an 8-2 run to cut the scoring margin to just one point. This would be as close as the Knights would get as Point seized control of the game from an offensive putback by Bowen which extended their lead to 14 points. The Skyhawks would maintain its lead for the remainder of the game.

Up next, Point will host Southeastern Baptist in a nonconference match-up on Tuesday, Nov. 16. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in West Point Park Gymnasium.
