Men’s basketball falls to Freed-Hardeman at home

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 3, 2021) – RJ Selman shot a career-high 27 points Wednesday evening, but the Point University men's basketball team fell to Freed-Hardeman 89-75 inside West Point Park Gymnasium.

Selman also recorded seven rebounds and was joined in the double-digit scoring column by Lorenzo Freeman Jr. with 19 points and Corey Bowen with 15. Bowen had seven rebounds and Freeman had six. Jake Smith recorded six assists.

The Lions jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Bowen got Point on the board with a made layup, assisted by Smith. Point cut FHU's lead down to four from a triple by Selman, but the Lions would respond with an 11-1 run. Freed-Hardeman would extend their lead out by as many as 16 points and enter the break leading 44-31.

Point opened the break on a 12-3 run, bringing the score within four points (47-43). The run started with a dunk from Bowen to start the half. This was as close as the Lions would allow Point to get as FHU extended its lead back out to double figures and did not allow Point to trail by less than nine points for the last 10 minutes of play.

With Wednesday's loss, the Skyhawks fall to 2-2 overall. Point will now turn its attention to Appalachian Athletic Conference play, as they host St. Andrews University on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 4 p.m. Saturday will be Alumni Day for men's basketball.
