Football wins 38-35 over St. Andrews on Homecoming

VALLEY, Ala. (Oct. 2, 2021) – Four Point University football team members found their way into the endzone Saturday afternoon en route to a 38-35 Homecoming victory inside Ram Stadium.

This was the first Saturday of Mid-South Appalachian Division Conference play for both the Skyhawks and Knights. The victory improved Point to 1-4 (1-0 MSC) and saw SAU's record fall to 0-5 (0-1 MSC).

"My hat goes off to this team and staff for their never-quit attitude," Head Coach Julius Dixon said. "It was an awesome home crowd and we are excited to be able to get the win."

In Point's first appearance on their home turf for the season, the Skyhawks accumulated 288 total yards on offense, with 159 in the air and 129 on the ground.

Quarterback Payton Allen handled majority of the snaps for Point, completing 16 of 29 passes. Allen led the Skyhawks in rushing yards with 55 on six carries. Sensir Carnes and D'Ontae Eatmon also recorded six carries, with Carnes recording the Point's final touchdown of the game.

Nick Marien caught four balls for 45 yards to lead all receivers. CJ Henderson was the only Skyhawk to score a touchdown off a pass, as his touchdown came with 45 seconds left in the second quarter to send the Skyhawks into the half leading 21-14.

Logan Flesher was 1-for-1 on field goal attempts, had two punts for 69 yards and finished with seven kickoffs for 368 yards and three touchbacks.

On defense, Aaron Anderson led the Skyhawks with 10 tackles and was followed by Quan Neal who recorded nine.

Point wasted little time getting on the board at the start of the game, with Tyrique Robinson scoring in the Skyhawks' opening drive. In the second quarter, both teams scored two touchdowns each, with the Knights scoring their first touchdown on their opening possession and Brenton White answering with a touchdown on the following possession for the Skyhawks. St. Andrew's quarter Austin Wallace scored both of the Knights' touchdowns in the second quarter, with Henderson securing the final touchdown of the half.

In the second half, St. Andrews outscored Point 21 to 17, but Flesher's 41-yard field goal in the third quarter proved to be the deciding factor as the Skyhawks won by a three-point margin. White rushed for his second touchdown to end the third quarter to help lift the Skyhawks to a 31-21 lead entering the final frame and Carnes' touchdown to begin the fourth quarter helped Point to their largest lead of the day, 38-21.

The Knights threatened Point's lead with back-to-back touchdowns in the final minutes of action, but the Skyhawks were able to hold off the Knights from taking the lead and earn the victory.

Next, Point will travel to face Faulkner University on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 5:30 p.m. Following Saturday's game, the Skyhawks will return to Ram Stadium to host MSC rival Reinhardt University on Saturday, Oct. 16.
