Cheer qualifies for national championship

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 27, 2022) – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the qualifiers for the 2022 Competitive Cheer National Championship in Ypsilanti, Mich. And the Point University competitive cheer team is one of the 15 teams to qualify for the national championship.

The field includes eight automatic qualifiers and seven at-large bids. The automatic qualifiers are determined by the winners of six conference tournaments or regional grouping competitions which were hosted at St. Ambrose (Mich.) and St. Thomas (Fla.).

Point competed in the Southeast Regional and came in third place, but earned an at-large bid as the Skyhawks are currently No. 12 in the nation.

The 15-team competition will get underway with preliminaries on March 11th at the George Gervin GameAbove Center followed by the finals on March 12th.

The order of competition for the preliminary rounds will be announced March 1.
