Firehawks Drop Series to Skyhawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern baseball team closed out the weekend SSAC series with Point in an unfavorable 10-4 loss on Sunday. UTS took game one 2-1, and Point took game two 10-7 yesterday.

Point (13-6, 5-3) took the early lead scoring one in the second and three in the fourth. UTS trailed 4-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

UT Southern (4-14, 1-5) got on the board when Blake Birdsong singled to right scoring Kevin McCarthy. Gabe Sibert reached on a fielder's choice allowing Justin Beachler to cross the plate. UTS cut the Point lead to 4-2 after four.

In the fifth and sixth, point would score three more runs to lead 7-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Rhett Birdsong doubled to right center driving in Sibert. Chandler Jordan singled up the middle plating Rhett. UTS trailed 7-4 after six.

Point would seal the game with a three-spot in the ninth.  

Logan Parrott got the start and tossed four innings. Parrott allowed three earned runs and was saddled with the loss. Gerry Wayne Davis tossed two innings allowing two earned runs. Caiden Rodgers tossed a pair of innings allowing two earned runs. Josh Simmons and Blake Birdsong together pitched the ninth.

UT Southern will travel to Stillman on Friday, March 8th. First pitch is set for two p.m.
