Koalas Opens Home Swing with Loss to Point

Columbia, SC – The Columbia College (SC) volleyball team opened its four-game home swing with a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) loss to Point, falling 28-26, 25-15, and 25-23. The loss drops the Koalas to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the AAC. The Skyhawks improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Kristin Wemes finished with a game-high 11 kills to lead two Koalas. Wemes also had five digs and two block assists in the match.  Nya Grey was the only other Koala player to record double-digit kills with 10.

Maia Brown and Savanna Logan recorded double-digit assists in running the offense, putting up 17 and 12, respectively. 

Sameily Marquez had 11 kills and Paige Lowe had 23 set assists for Point in the win.

Columbia College took Point to extra points in set one, falling 28-26.  After dropping set two 25-15, the Koalas' offense picked up. The Koalas played the Skyhawks point-for-point throughout the third set before taking a two-point lead late, 23-21.  Point closed the set with a 4-2 run to take the final set, 25-23, and the match 3-0.

The Koalas will host Truett McConnell Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 pm in its second-of-four straight home games.
