Eagles Come Up Short in Game One with Point
Waleska, GA - The Eagles are coming off a very successful Southeast Rumble Tournament where they had their offense and defense clicking for the most part. The final game of the tournament was a 19-run game for the Eagles and the pitching was there to match holding William Carey to just 6 runs. Saturday's game one of the Point University series was just about as good with run output for the Eagles, however, the Skyhawks were putting up runs of their own and they did it in a big way. The final was in favor of Point University 17 to 14 on a cloudy day at Ken White Field.
Ethan Foley would get the start for the Eagles and at times looked as if he was going to have a good outing. He struck out the first batter, but the second man up hit a solo shot over the right field fence. The ball seemed to be carrying in the early part of the game.
The second inning would go about the same with Foley giving up a solo shot homer and then another run scored off a double, but the Eagles were able to keep pace on a two-run homer by Jarrett Burney in the bottom of the second. The Eagles still had a good game going with the score just 3-2 with Point leading.
The third inning is where things turned for the worse for the Eagles and they never would catch Point for the remainder of the game. Several pitchers came in for relief of Foley and the Skyhawks' offense kept on getting the ball over the fence. It was just one of those games for the Eagles' pitching staff.
The offense for the Eagles kept on pushing the entire game getting back to with two runs in the fifth with the score 11-9, but Point went on another run over the next few innings to put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
The team will have to put this loss behind them quickly as they will be getting in the doubleheader starting at noon on Sunday and the second game starting at roughly 3:30 pm.
Jarrett Burney led the way for the Eagles going 4 for 5 scoring 4 runs and getting 5 RBIs. Alex Coulter who came in midway through the game at catcher finished out 4 for 4, one double, and got 3 RBIs. Nash Crowell solo homered in the game as well.
Jacob Profit and Lance Dockery keep their good at-bats going with both getting triples in the game.
