Eagles Finish the Regular Season 8-0 in Conference Play
West Point, GA - The Eagles wrapped up the 2023 regular season on Saturday with a 24-4 victory at Point University and wrapped up the first-place spot in the very competitive Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
The Eagles made quick work of the Skyhawks by blowing out to a dominating 8-0 lead. Brady Hanak was the first to get on the board for the Eagles in the first minutes of the game from an assist by Benji Shackleford. Shackleford was able to get a goal of his own less than a minute later. By the time the quarter was over, Charlie Edwards, Ethan Lux, Cameron Cochran, Jacob Pinson, and Rett Canon all recorded goals for the Eagles to go along with the goals by Hanak and Shackleford. Cochran actually scored twice in the first quarter.
The first quarter was enough for the Eagles to win the game, but they continued adding goals the rest of the way. Point was able to get three goals in the second quarter to match the Eagles' output, but the Eagles were able to score five goals in the third and eight more in the fourth.
Cochran and Hanak led the Eagles in scoring, which they have done numerous times this season. Both had 5 goals each. In addition, Cochran had 6 assists and Hanak dished out 3. Canon and Lux followed them in scoring with three total goals each.
Ezequel Ceant was 20-30 in face-offs and recorded 12 ground balls. Liam Wright had 12 saves from 16 shots by the Skyhawks.
The AAC will announce the tournament schedule this week, which the Eagles will have an automatic by from the first-round games. The first-round games will start this upcoming weekend, but the Eagles will not play until the last weekend in April which will be the semi-finals.
The Eagles end the regular season as the first-place team in the AAC with an 8-0 record. The overall record was 13-1 with the one loss coming to Indiana Tech earlier in the season at Ken White Field. You can expect the AAC to be well-represented in the NAIA National Tournament with teams like Kesier, Cumberlands, Webber, and Tennessee Wesleyan along with the Eagles. Reinhardt will be pushing for the sixth NAIA National Championship in a row this season, which is an incredible accomplishment.
