Koalas Win Fourth Straight in Shutout of Skyhawks

For the second time in two games the Columbia College Koalas were able to make an early goal hold up as Isabella Gurrieri's fourth minute goal gave her two game winners in a row in a 1-0 shutout of the Point University Skyhawks.

The Koalas came out firing and managed to go ahead less than four minutes into the match when Jordan Myers found Gurrieri with a cutback which she fired home in an eerily similar goal to one in Columbia's previous match on Saturday against Union. Although the Koalas controlled much of the possession in the half, dangerous attacking moments were limited for each team as the scoreline stayed at 1-0 going into halftime.

Strong work in midfield from Brooke Piscitello, Madison Stewart, Taylor Sage, and Elizabeth Schossler, among others, was the deciding factor in the second half as the Koalas limited the Skyhawks to mostly long range shots and free kicks from distance in their pursuit of the equalizing goal. Schossler fired one shot high for the Koalas while Stewart and Myers both had shots saved in the second half, but there would be no additional goals in the game as Columbia upped their conference record to 6-4-1 to sit alone in sixth place.

Amorie Kostelak was again solid in goal, picking up her second straight shutout and the team's third straight, as she notched four saves on the afternoon.

Columbia will return to the field on Thursday in a game rescheduled due to Hurricane Ian when they host the Johnson University Royals at 4PM at Younts Stadium.
