Women's soccer fall 1-0 to Point

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - An Alyssa Bennett goal in the 36th minute was all the offense Point would need, as the Skyhawks edged Union 1-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference women's soccer on Saturday night.

Bennett's shot was initially batted by Union goalie Madison Hebert, but after ricocheting off her hands, it struck the cross bar and bounced gently into the goal. The Bulldogs briefly disputed the call, but officials let it stand after a brief meeting.

Union had only had six shots on the night but still had several opportunities to close the gap in the second half, none better than one that emerged in the 68th minute.

Rafaela Oliveira made a great pass in traffic to Cleo Paris, who charged towards the net for an open shot. Unfortunately, Skyhawk goalie Erica Burkhardt was in perfect position, snagging Paris' shot out of the air for the save.

Union (1-6, 1-4), is back home Tuesday for another Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
