Skyhawks drop home Opener to TMU

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 13, 2022)- The Point University volleyball team hosted Truett McConnell University Tuesday night at the West Point Park Gym in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup and fell to the Bears 3-0. 

Play by play (25-22, 29-27, 25-21) 

In the first set, both teams traded points back-to-back. Truett McConnell found their rhythm despite Point keeping the game close. Towards the end of the set, Point evened the score after trailing by five. The Skyhawks would cool off as the Bears ended the set with three straight points in their favor. In the second set, Point came into the bout with all the momentum on their side as they built a 10-5 lead over the Bears. The Skyhawks held the lead for the rest of the set until a service error tied the game near the deciding factor. Truett McConnell built off the comeback and took the set to move them 2-0.  

The Skyhawks looked to come into the third set giving it their all but a few miscues on their end saw the Bears take an early 8-4 lead. For the next minutes, both teams went on a run of their own as Point went from trailing by four to tying the game at 10 a piece. Truett held their ground and went on a 5-0 run to bring the deficit back to five in their favor. As the Bears looked to close out Point, the Skyhawks showed some fight by going on a 5-0 run and cutting the lead down to five. Truett would not let the late run catch them by surprise as the Bears won the set 25-21.  

In the Box 

Point was led at the net by Sameily Marquez, who recorded 13 kills, Mackenzie Littrell recorded eight kills, and Mya Sterling recorded six kills. Paige Lowe had 18 assists, and Linda Schiller followed with 13 assists of her own. Whitney Ward recorded 10 digs, and Lowe added 8 digs as well. 

 

Up next 

The Skyhawks (3-7, 0-3) will look to bounce back in conference play as they welcome Kentucky Christian to town for an AAC matchup. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the West Point Park Gymnasium.
