Women's soccer shutout win in regular season finale

Bluefield, Va. (Oct. 29, 2022) - The Point University women's soccer team took a trip over to Bluefield, Va. Saturday afternoon to square off against Bluefield University in a conference matchup and came out with a shutout victory 3-0. 

The Skyhawks got the scoring off in the eleventh minute with a goal by Chiara Cavicchiolo to give Point a 1-0 lead to start the contest. Shot on goal in the seventeenth minute by Point's Tamia Jones was saved by Bluefield's goalie, Emily Ledford. The Skyhawks got one more goal before the half in the forty-third minute. Goal scored by Chiara Zaccagnino, her first of the game and assisted by Alyssa Bennett. Point went into the half up 2-0.

The Rams looked to come out of the locker room and get the scoring going quickly. Shots on goal in the forty-sixth minute from Savannah Holmes, Brooklynn Whitaker and Bella Cox were all stopped by the Skyhawks goalie, Erica Burkhardt. A foul on Bluefield in the sixtieth munite, sent Skyhawks, Kelly Carlisle to kick a penalty shot. She was successful on the kick and extended the lead to 3-0. Point held that score for the remainder of the game with the final of 3-0 over Bluefield University.

Point outshot Bluefield University 21-5 with ten shots on goal compared to the Rams who had five. Kelly Carlisle had 3 shots, 2 shots on goal, and 1 goal. Chiara Cavicchiolo had 3 shots, 2 shots on goal, and 1 goal. Chiara Zaccagnino had 2 shots, 2 shots on goal and a goal. Tamia Jones had 3 shots and 2 shots on goal. Isabel Sanchez and Jenna Loewen both had a shots on goal. Erica Burkhardt had 5 shots on goal and 5 saves in the contest.

Up next 

Point has now finished up their 2022 regular season. The women's soccer team will be back in action this Tuesday at home for the first round of the playoffs. The matchup will start at 3:00pm at River Bowl Stadium against Milligan University.
