Softball picks up two big wins over Clark Atlanta

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 16, 2022) – The Point University softball team hosted Clark Atlanta Wednesday afternoon and defeated the Panthers 18-0 in game one and 11-0 in game two.

Game one- Point 18 Clark Atlanta 0

Point's offense went right to work in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader, as the Skyhawks scored four runs in the first, six in the second, one run in the third and seventh in the fourth, to put the five-inning run-rule into effect.

Devin Foster scored Point's first run of the game off a passed ball, and Brianna Plocharczyk scored off an error to help Point take a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly from Gabrielle Riley would bring home Haley Lyner and a single to center field from Kayla Wyatt would score Asia Jones to give Point an early 4-0 lead.

In the second inning, Alexus Griffin, Foster, Plocharczyk, Wyatt, Parker and Chelsea Parker would all cross home plate to extend Point's lead out 10-0. The Skyhawks would push one run across off an error in the third. The Skyhawks would bat around in the fourth, recording six hits and scoring seven runs in their final plate appearance.

The Skyhawks recorded 14 hits out of 27 plate appearances, with Lyner leading the way, going 3-for-3 with four RBI's. Allie Davis followed, going 2-for-2 with three RBI's, and Jones went 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Mary Burnham got the start, and the win in the circle, going 3.0 innings, giving up two hits and striking out four.

Game two- Point 11 Clark Atlanta 0

Point used two big scoring innings to put game two away, as the Skyhawks scored four runs in the first and seven in the third. A double to center field by Jones would score Lyner, Plocharczyk and Foster and Jones would come home on a passed ball later in the inning.

In the third, Griffin tripled to right field, bringing home Pildner, Parker and Knight and would come home later in the inning on a passed ball. A single by Savanna Bryant would score Foster and another passed ball would allow Plocharczyk to score. Lyner would come home later in the inning on a passed ball, making the score 11-0.

Point recorded 11 hits, with Taylor Knight, Lyner and Plocharczyk recording two hits apiece. Jones and Griffin each recorded three RBI's. Katelyn Jiles got the start and the win, going 3.0 innings, giving up two hits and striking out four.

Point will hit the road for its first road doubleheader of the season on Friday as they travel to Stillman. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
