Men’s soccer outlasted in nail-biting matchup against Bryan College

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2022) - The Point University men's soccer team returned to the River Bowl stadium Friday evening for an Appalachian Athletic Conference showdown against Bryan College and fell 1-0.

The Skyhawks came took the field after a two-day turnaround from a previous match with Reinhardt University and looked to bounce back by setting the tone on their home field. The Lions matched the intensity of the Skyhawks by taking quick shots on goal. Both teams created opportunities for their teams to score but failed to capitalize. Point's defense would not allow Bryan College to get the early momentum and kept the Lions from scoring in the half.

As both respective opponents approached the second half of the contest, The Lions started the half in the most perfect fashion by taking the lead through the first four minutes. The Skyhawks looked to respond by taking their attempts on goal but would not be able to move past the Lions' defense. As the game narrowed down to the last minute, both teams had the mindset to play until the final buzzer. Bryan, already holding a 1-0 lead, continued to try to extend the lead to bring the game out of reach, but multiple saves by Niels Van Gool helped give Point a few more chances on offense. In the last few seconds, the Skyhawks looked to create chaos by scoring the game-tying goal but would not be able to secure the score.
