Skyhawks tie 3-3 in season opener

WEST POINT, Ga. (Aug. 19, 2021) – After trailing 3-0 early in the second half, the Point University men's soccer team battled back, scoring three goals in the final 35 minutes of the game to tie the score at three, but neither the Skyhawks nor the visiting Royals of Warner University were able to score the go-ahead goal, and Thursday night's season opener ended in a 3-3 tie at River Bowl Stadium.

Play-by-play

The Royals were able to connect for two goals in the first half and one more at the beginning of the second half, with all three of their goals coming from Eduard DaSilva. However, Warner's momentum did not keep the Skyhawks defeated, as Jeronimo Leguizamon connected for the Skyhawks' first goal of the season in the 56th minute to put Point on the board.

Almost 16 minutes later, Pablo Sanz Diez fed the ball into the box, where Leguizamon was able to head it to Diego Espino, who connected for Point's second goal, making the score 3-2.

With less than four minutes remaining, Sanz Diez took a corner kick for the Skyhawks and found Julien Sagnol in the box, who headed the ball into the net to even the score at three. Despite several attempts in the final minutes, neither team could take the lead during regulation time, and the game entered overtime. Both teams took a combined four shots each in the two overtime periods, but neither team was able to find the back of the net and score the golden goal.
