Skyhawks fall short in exhibition against NCAA Div. II, West Georgia

CAROLLTON, Ga (Jan. 11, 2023) – The Point University men's basketball team returned to action Wednesday evening for their exhibition against NCAA Div. II, West Georgia and fell 93-59.

 

The Wolves got the scoring started early with a 5-0 run to begin the contest. The Skyhawks were able to cut the lead to one with a fast break layup by Jack Gray to make it 5-4. After another 5-0 run by the Wolves, Jake Smith would get his jumper to go to make it 10-6. Jake Smith would yet again stop another run by the Wolves, this time a 9-0 run with his jumper that made it 26-14. D'Andre Jefferson would add two points with his dunk off the Skyhawks fastbreak, coming way of Jake Smith's defensive rebound with the score now 26-18. The Wolves would go on a few more runs in the first half to take a 45-26 lead to the locker room.

 

The Skyhawks would get their scoring started in the second half when Justice Hayes connected on a jump shot in the paint to make it 49-28. Jake Smith would get three points the old fashion way, when he would get fouled on his jumper and connect on his free throw to make it 49-31. After a 7-0 run by the Wolves, Jack Gray would hit a jumper to make it 56-33. The Wolves would continue the offensive pressure and would eventually win the contest by a final of 93-59.

 

In the box 

Jake Smith would lead all Skyhawks in scoring with his 24 points, along with eight rebounds and eight assists. 

The Skyhawks shot 42.17% (24 of 57) from the floor, 30.8% (4 of 13) from three-point land and 53.8% (7 of 13) at the charity stripe.
