Point Football drops road AAC Showdown to Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga. (Oct. 12, 2024)—The Point University Football team returned to the field for an afternoon Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against in-state rival Reinhardt University. The Skyhawks fell to the Eagles with a final score of 36-26.

The Skyhawks opened the first quarter in the scoring column first as Mitchell Gossett connected with Quintravious Teasley in the air for an 18-yard completion in the endzone. The Eagles got a good rush on the project to block the extra-point attempt to keep the score at 6-0. The following drive for Reinhardt found them moving the ball enough to score on a three-yard rush and make the extra point to take the lead. The Eagles looked to put the Skyhawks on their heels with their next offensive drive, but Kemorion Larkin baited the quarterback well enough for an interception, which was followed by a 38-yard return. Point did not waste any time getting into the promised land as Mitchell Gossett found Nicholas Marien for a 26-yard touchdown. Reinhardt followed with another rush to block the extra point and convert with a return to now trail 12-9. The back and forth continued through the second quarter as Payton Allen showed his jump ball ability with an amazing catch for a 14-yard touchdown. Reinhardt returned the favor with a rushing touchdown and punt return touchdown to regain the lead with a score of 29-19 at the half.

The second half opened with the Eagles putting the Skyhawks in a situation of adversity with a 65-yard run to extend their lead to 36-19. Point looked to return the favor in the final period as Mitchell Gossett found Quintravious Teasley for a 65-yard touchdown. Point looked to regain momentum by trying to convert with another score, but the Eagles did enough to hang on to their lead and end the game with a final score of 36-26.
