Skyhawks prepare for national championship

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 9, 2022) – For the second time in program history, the Point University competitive cheer team has earned a bid to the NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance Championship. The Skyhawks travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., and compete March 11-12.

Season recap

Point earned their first win of the season at the University of Mobile in their season opener on Jan. 28. Their victory earned them a No. 3 ranking in the NAIA competitive cheer poll. Point competed in two virtual competitions, earning a second-place finish in both and earned their second win of the season in a dual with Life University. The Skyhawks finished the regular season before competing in NAIA Southeast Regionals with an average score of 85.23.

The Skyhawks finished in third place at the Southeast Regionals out of 10 teams. Point earned an overall score of 87.8, finishing just 00.1 behind Mobile, who came in second with an overall score of 87.9. No. 1 Xavier won the competition with a score of 96.3.

NAIA national championship

Fifteen teams qualified for the national championship with eight automatic qualifiers and seven at-large bids. The preliminary round begins on Friday, March 11, and the Skyhawks are slated to compete at 5:10 p.m. EST. The final round will take place on March 12, and the order for performance times will be determined following Friday's preliminary round.
