Eagles Soccer Picks Up Important Win at Point
West Point, GA - After coming off a big conference shutout over the weekend against Johnson, the Eagles were able to capture one more when they played Point University on Wednesday afternoon. The win brings their AAC record to 3-1-1 and a fourth-place spot in the current standings. Just St. Andrews (1), CIU (2), and Milligan (3) sit in front of the Eagles with just over half the regular season left to go. All three teams are on the upcoming schedule so the Eagles will have a lot to say about the standings going forward.
First Half
The Eagles would start right where they left off on Saturday by scoring goals. The Eagles would get 5 total goals in this game and they really needed every one of them this time because Point was able to get 3 past the Eagles' defense. Paul Nitsch would get the first goal of the game and it would come in the third minute of the game. Point would answer in the sixth minute sneaking one past starting keeper, Niko Tzevelekos. Tzevelekos would have 6 saves in the game with 9 shots on goal. After the first ten minutes of play, the score was tied at one all.
The game would stay tied for about halfway through the first half until forward, Pavel Dashin, would break the tie. His goal in the twenty-eighth minute gave the Eagles a lead that they would not let go of the rest of the game, however, they did need more goals to get the win in this game. Just about four minutes after Dashin's goal, Andres Jorquera would give the Eagles a little cushion going into the halftime break by putting one past Point's keeper. Reinhardt would enjoy a solid 3-1 lead at halftime.
Second Half
The second half would see both teams score two goals each. Point would strike first scoring in the forty-ninth minute bringing the game closer with a 3-2 advantage to the Eagles. Dashin would get loose one more time scoring Reinhardt's fourth goal of the game giving that two-goal cushion once more, 4-2.
Point would get their final goal of the game in the seventy-sixth minute. Point's forward, Max Paul Busnel, scored all three goals for the Skyhawks. The third goal by point would bring the game back to being a close game, however, Blake White would make sure the Eagles were able to pick up the win. White scored in the eighty-second minute
Wrap Up
The five goals scored were the second highest of the season for the Eagles and this came against a decent team from the AAC. The Eagles had 15 total shots in the game with 9 of them on target. This is compared to the 13 shots the Skyhawks put up with 9 of those being on target at Tzevelekos. The Eagles will be ready to extend this two-game win streak to three this weekend when St. Andrews comes to Ken White Field on Saturday afternoon. St. Andrews currently holds the top spot in the AAC so this is sure to be an exciting and tough game for the Eagles.
