Volleyball Splits on First Day of Running Eagle Classic

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Running Eagle Classic Friday. The Blue Raiders (2-1) fell to host Life (Ga.) in five sets and rebounded with a sweep of Point (Ga.)

Savannah Pippen led the Blue Raiders tallying 18 kills in the two matches. Pippen totaled six kills against Life and had a match-high 12 kills against Point.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Life: 2-3 (25-21, 12-25, 28-26, 14-25, 11-15)

Life got out to an early 4-2 lead in the first set before the Blue Raiders answered back by scoring the next four points. The Running Eagles responded by scoring the next four points before the Blue Raiders tied the set at eight. Trailing 12-9, Lindsey Wilson scored five of the next six points to jump in front 14-13. The two teams traded points as the Blue Raiders held onto a 19-18 lead. Lindsey Wilson took the first set scoring six of the set's final nine points.

The Running Eagles hit a .348 in the second set. LWC fell behind 6-1 in the set before scoring four of the next five points to trim the deficit to 7-5. Life took control of the second set going on a 10-1 run to lead 19-8. The Blue Raiders were unable to mount a comeback as Life took the set 25-12.

Lindsey Wilson and Life traded points to begin the third set as neither team led by more than two for the first 12 points. After the Running Eagles had taken a 10-6 lead, the Blue Raiders fought back and went on a 6-1 run to lead 12-11.

The set continued to be a back-and-forth battle as there was eight ties in the next 15 points. Lindsey Wilson took a 20-19 lead before Life scored the next three points to lead 22-20. The Blue Raiders then tied the set at 22. Lindamara Conceicao gave LWC the 28-26 set win with a kill.

Life hit a match-high .359 in set four as they took the set 25-14 to tie the match. The Blue Raiders got off to a slow start in the set falling behind 10-3 and were not able to recover. Life remained in control for the remainder of the set as the two teams headed to set five.

Trailing 7-4 in the fifth set, the Blue Raiders tied the set scoring the next three points. The Running Eagles then scored the next three points before Lindsey Wilson scored three of the next four to trim the Life lead to 11-10. Life clinched the match scoring four of the set's final five points.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Point: 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 31-29)

The Blue Raiders got off to a slow start in the first set trailing 6-1 and 9-3. Lindsey Wilson stormed back scoring 14 of the next 16 points to lead 17-11. Following a couple quick points from the Skyhawks, the Blue Raiders increased their lead to 20-13. The Blue Raiders took the first set scoring the final three points.

Leading 6-5 in the second set, LWC took control by scoring the next six points to lead 12-5.  Following a pair of points from the Skyhawks, the Blue Raiders then went on a 7-2 run to push the lead to double digits at 19-9. Point then scored the next three points before Lindsey Wilson secured the set scoring six of the final eight points.

The Blue Raiders trailed 15-11 in the third set before scoring the next six points to lead 17-15. Point then tied the set at 17 before LWC retook the lead 19-17. Leading 24-20, the Skyhawks stormed back scoring the next four points to tie the set. The Blue Raiders trailed 29-28 and secured the victory scoring the final three points.

Lindsey Wilson closes out the Running Eagle Classic on Saturday against Brenau (Ga.) at 10 a.m. CT and Reinhardt (Ga.) at Noon CT.
