Men's Tennis Wins Third Consecutive AAC Tournament Title

Chattanooga, Tenn.- For the third consecutive season, the men's tennis team swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The team won the regular season title a week ago with their win against Reinhardt University. The tournament title came over the weekend.

Opening Round:

Tennessee Wesleyan, the No. 1 seed, began the tournament against the No. 8 seed in the field, Point University. After picking the two wins to get the doubles point, Nicolas Cortes Campos, Jesus Fernandez, Sabi Roi won their singles matches to give the Bulldogs the 4-0 win to advance to the next round.

Semifinals:

In the semifinals, TWU was able to make quick work of their opponent, Montreat College. The top-seeded Bulldogs took the doubles point from the fourth-seeded opponent to give them a 1-0 lead to begin the singles. To move the team on to the next round, Cortes, Fernandez, and Bolea won their singles match to give the team a 4-0 win.

Finals:

In the finals, Tennessee Wesleyan found themselves in a situation they did not face in the first two rounds. The opponents, the No. 2 seed in the tournament Union College, took the doubles point. The team did not flinch though. Cortes, Fernandez, Roi, and Octavio Volpi all won their singles matches, giving the Bulldogs the win by a score of 4-1 and the tournament title.

The tournament title win gives TWU an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. The team will find out their seed on Tuesday, May 2.
