WEST POINT, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball led after the first quarter 19-8, but the Point battled back to defeat the Firehawks 61-51on Saturday. Maggie Hale led all scorers with 14 points, including four triples. Newcomers Azaria Varnado added seven points, and Myah Sutton tossed in six points in their Firehawk debut.
In the opening stanza, Hale drained her four triples, UT Southern (3-9, 2-5) would hold Point (8-5, 4-2) scoreless for the final 4:53 of the period to lead 19-8. In the second quarter the Skyhawks would be held scoreless again for the opening 50 seconds, but PU would blast 23 points in the quarter to deadlock both teams at 31 heading to the break.
In the third quarter, both teams struggled from the field combining for four of 30 shooting, but the difference was three timely triples by the Skyhawks to take the lead 46-44 heading to the final quarter. UTS struggled from the field connecting on thee of 14 as Point pulled away shooting five of 14.

UT Southern will return home to host William Carey on Tuesday, January 9th. The Firehawks and Crusaders will tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
